Skin Care Needs

Do you know what your skin needs?

There is no such thing as perfect, even when it comes to your skin care regimen. Your skin care needs can change over time so be ready to change your routine if your normal one stops working.

Have you ever noticed how your skin reacts to certain changes? Take notice of how your skin behaves with seasonal, hormonal, diet, and stress changes. Whatever the change is, your skin care products should match it to maintain healthy skin.

Here are a few ways skin can be affected:

Diet: Smoking and unhealthy foods can add years to the look and feel of your skin.

Weather: Any extremes (summer and winter) can dry your skin out, however, acne-prone or oily skin types can be made worse. Over exposure to Ultra Violet (UV) rays can cause damage to any skin type and in some prolonged exposure cases, skin cancer. That’s why it is important to use sun block when out in the sun for extended periods of time.

Hormones: There are several changes that occur in the human body which produce rapid influxes of hormones, including adolescence, menstruation, pregnancy, and weight gain or loss. You will also see changes when hormone levels drop as we age.

Medications and Health: The state of your health plays a major role in the health and well being of your skin. Conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, thyroid problems, and allergic reactions can cause your skin to be out of sorts. Medications can encourage negative changes in your skin, so if you see a change after taking a new medication don’t discontinue use, but do contact your doctor as soon as it occurs.

Genes: You may owe mom and dad a thank you if you inherited their skin type, good or bad.
