Skin Rash


Skin rash is a very common skin condition that causes the skin to become red or inflamed. If it is a reoccurring situation it is called dermatitis.

Skin rashes vary in appearance and they don’t have to itch to be a true rash. Some rashes are referred to as pustular, macular, blistering, papular, and nodular. The causes of skin rashes can vary as well.
 
Causes of Skin Rashes
  • Insect bites
  • Psoriasis
  • Eczema
  • Adverse reaction to some medications
  • Chicken pox
  • Scarlet fever
Common Types of Skin Rashes
  • Seborrheic dermatitis – caused by oily skin, changes in the weather, stress, and as a response to alcohol based lotions. It presents with scaling around the mouth, nose, eyelids, eyebrows, and behind the ears. Occasionally it affects the entire body.
  • Contact dermatitis – this happens when your skin touches an irritant ie: latex, poison plants (oak, sumac, and ivy), harsh soaps, and detergents. 
  • Heat rash – causes small red bumps to develop on the groin, back, neck, arms, abdomen, upper chest, and armpits. A person being overheated (can happen in hot or cold weather) can bring on about of heat rash.
Tip – Using harsh soaps, scented products, and scrubbing can make skin rash worse. Most rashes are a temporary condition. If you find that your rash is not getting better, seek the advice of a doctor.
