Scars

When your skin repairs itself after an injury such as, acne, surgery, burns, skin disease, infection, and everyday scrapes, a scar is left behind. The scar can be brown, pink or a series of silvery lines in color.

The collagen fibers that our skin produces to heal itself only heals the skin. The injured sweat glands or hair follicles don’t do as well with repairing themselves, thus leaving visible scars. Whether or not you develop a scar depends on the blood supply to the injury, the thickness and tone of your skin, severeness of the injury, and the location of the injury.

Some Scar Types:
  • Keloid scars
  • Sunken scars
  • Acne
  • Chicken pox scars
  • Stretch marks
Please don’t confuse a skin disorder like psoriasis, or eczema with a scar. Sunburns and minor burns don’t belong to the scar family either. However, scarring can occur with the previously mentioned conditions if they are made worse by scratching, and/or lack of treatment.

Tip – If you have a scab, leave it alone to avoid scarring. Also, help your skin to produce new skin cells by using creams, ointments, and gels that contain vitamins C and E.
