Moles

Although, the cause is unknown, there’s no need to be alarmed if you have a few moles or “nevi” on your skin. The average person has at least 10 to 40 moles and they can vary drastically.

Common Mole Colors:
  • Purple
  • Brown
  • Black
  • Blue
Mole Shapes:
  • Round
  • Oval
  • Square
  • Star shaped
Common Mole Locations:
  • Legs
  • Arms
  • Face
  • Back
  • Chest
In rare cases moles have been found in the armpit, around the genitals, on the scalp, and under nails.

It does not matter if your moles are raised, flat, wrinkled, or smooth; most moles are harmless and large. Although, if you discover you have a mole that is more than eight inches in diameter you should seek medical attention immediately. Some large moles can be symptoms of melanoma or cancer.

Prime time for mole development is between birth and about twenty years old. However, this is not true for pregnant women since moles have been found to thrive on hormones and genes. During this time in a woman’s life moles can grow larger, become darker, and increase in number. So don’t be alarmed if this happens.

Tip – Protect your moles from the harmful rays of the sun by wearing sunscreen.
