Freckles

Since the sun is thought to play a major role in the development of freckles it is wise to use sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or higher to deter further damage. Make certain the sunscreen is a broad spectrum sunscreen that protects against UVA and UVB rays.

Fair skin is more apt to freckle and when it is over exposed to sunlight the occurrence is even higher. Freckles are usually tan or light brown, flat and small in diameter. They typically sprinkle the nose, face, and cheeks in random patterns. Freckles also behave according to their type.

The Two Types of Freckles:
  • Lentigines freckles – Develop on the skin of older people who aren’t using adequate sun protection.
  • Ephelides – Usually seen during the summer, but can fade during the winter and over time they can even fade away.
Freckles and Age:

Freckles, sometimes called liver spots, can become more visible as you age, especially on the hands, chest, and arms. Harmful sun exposure over the years can cause those cute little freckles to run together.

Tip – Prescription bleaching creams can fade the darker skin of freckles. Laser treatment is another option, although costly, it is effective in removing large areas of freckles.
