Corns

Corns

Corns are typically, hardened areas on the balls of the feet, toes, and heels. However, soft corns can develop between the toes.

Characteristics of hard corns:
  • Made of several layers of dead skin that were exposed to friction and pressure.
  • Usually found on the sides and tops of toes, especially the pinky toe.
  • Typically follows a callus.
  • Can be yellow, white or gray in color.
  • Can be painful and tender, especially if under pressure.
Characteristics of soft corns:
  • Forms between toes (they thrive in moist sweaty places).
  • Appear as open sores.
  • Caused by the toes rubbing together.
Some of the usual causes of corns are hammer toes, claw toes, and improperly fitted shoes.

Pamper your corns at home by:
  • Wearing roomy, comfortable shoes.
  • Placing a small piece of lamb’s wool between the toes to prevent contact with the corns.
  • Wearing a small foam pad over the corn to protect it.
  • Soaking your feet in warm water before bed and then filing down the corn with a callus file every night while it is still soft.
