Blisters
Blisters can form anywhere that there is pressure and rubbing. The most common areas are the hardened areas of the heel, along the inner side of the big toe, and on the soles of the feet. The fluid or serum inside the blister is there to protect the skin beneath it from damage. Large blisters are called bulla, while the smaller types are known as vesicles. Whatever they are called they are itchy, painful nuisances that can be caused by various things.
Causes of blister development:
- Allergies (poison oak, poison sumac, poison ivy)
- Medications (Lasix and NegGram can cause mild blistering)
- Skin Irritation
- Infections
- Skin Disorders
Tip: Wash your hands often to avoid blisters caused by an infection, and don’t touch any open blisters. If your blister breaks, clean it with soap and water and cover it with a clean bandage immediately.
